“Capital offenses in Iran include murder, rape, armed robbery, apostasy, blasphemy, serious drug trafficking, adultery or prostitution, treason and espionage”

Well, there goes 30% of the american population… if not more…

It’s true. And it happens more often than you might think. “The Kite Runner” is an excellent book to read on a more in depth examination of life in a country ruled by Islamic Fundamentalists. A very similar stoning takes place in it as well…as the half-time entertainment to a soccer game no less.

It’s not in the Qua’ran. And it is not a supported tenant of Islam. Like most fundamentalism it is a strange by-product of extremism. And that is something to be feared.

Oh, and in Egypt it is against the constitution to be an atheist, agnostic, or polytheist. wow.

Half time of a soccer game? Holy cow!

While the Qua’ran may not specifically instruct Muslims to stone adulterers, it does instruct them to do whatever is ultimately necessary, including killing in the name of Allah, to protect his name. Obviously that has been interpreted by Iran’s government to mean that adulterers should be stoned to death.

There are many passages in the Qua’ran that merit this sort of translation, and I’m not surprised so many people do so. That’s why I’m scared of Iran.

excellent point. i think that is the danger of we mere mortals interpreting the word of god.

on a random note, when i was abroad this summer i saw tons of coptic orthodox churches and museums. they were really incredible. you would have dug it.

I feel horrible for the people of Iran.

A 16 year old girl was hung by crane for crimes against chastity. The truth is that she was molested by a man old enough to be her father. The man got 80 lashes, she was executed. Her court papers stated she “looked” like she was 22. The judge did NOTHING to find out her real age of 16. The girl’s local community is outraged.

If a women is raped in Iran, there is no way to prove it, unless there are several witnesses. All the man has to do is say the woman did not properly cover herself or seduced him.

A woman can be arrested for walking about town by herself without company of another woman. There is a special group that patrols town inforcing these rules, and making them up as the go along. They have supreme control.

The pesident of Iran recently stated at an American university that his country has no gay people. This brought laughter from his audience. Iran has gay people. They are stoned to death to make a threatening example to the community.

The people of Iran, especially the women, are afraid. I couldn’t imagine living life this way. The 16 year old that was hung for crimes against chastity also had other charges for walking alone without another woman. She had to get food and living supplies for herself and her old sickly grandparents. There was no other choice. There was no one else to help. This girl was killed simply for trying to survive.

Many in Iran want to be in this present world, but Iran’s leader keeps them stuck in the cruel middle ages.

I’m scared of Iran because of it’s lack of compassion for it’s people. If they can treat their own kind this way, ONLY GOD KNOWS what Iran is capable of doing to other parts of the world.

There is a lot of that kind of stuff in the book I read entitled The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and The Crusades). It’s amazing how little compassion Iran has for its citizens (namely women), and it’s because it is an Islamic nation.

p.s. Sorry for the delay in approving your post, Parker.
